Control Resonant's New Game++ Update 1.4.0 Squashes Bugs and Adds Quality of Life Tweaks

Remedy has released update 1.4.0 for Control Resonant, adding the promised New Game++ mode alongside a long list of bug fixes, performance work for low-end hardware, and interface changes aimed at making the game's overlapping upgrade systems easier to read. The patch notes also contain a few oddities that fit the game's offbeat tone.

The full list was declassified by Remedy on the game's official site. New Game++ is the headline addition for players who want to replay the campaign with their progress intact, but most of the notes are smaller fixes.

Oddities in the patch notes

Some entries read as though the writers enjoyed themselves. A new "Mute copyrighted music toggle" silences one song during the opening credits sequence, and the note ends with a pointed "It's a great track, so why would you". Another fix, for a spoiler-heavy issue, is described in careful detail before landing on the line "Despite everyone being dead".

One of the more practical fixes deals with fast-travel doors in the starting area. Using them could forcibly reset a player's custom outfit for Dylan back to the default postgame look. That no longer happens, so your wardrobe choices should stick.

Interface and performance changes

Most of the interface changes are meant to clear up how builds and upgrades work:

  • Your overall build power rating now appears on the main Loadout screen, rather than only in the Stats & Effects submenu.
  • Tagging certain upgrade materials as priority finds makes them show up when you highlight vendor markers on the map, so you can see whether a vendor stocks what you need before you travel there.

The update also includes performance optimisations for low-end hardware. Remedy's notes don't promise specific gains, so how much it helps weaker machines will become clear as players test it.

Following the release-day combat patch

The update comes after a release-day patch that made Dylan stronger as a melee fighter. That patch arrived in response to reviews criticising how durable enemies were. Resonant's combat rewards long, fast combos that switch between direct attacks, dodges, and power usage, and enemies that fell in a couple of hits would leave little room for that. The earlier changes were a measured mix of buffs and nerfs rather than a blunt reduction in enemy health.

The 1.4.0 changes sit on the other side of that balance. Clearer information about build strength and upgrade materials should make the progression systems easier to settle into, without touching the challenge of a kill-to-survive fighting style.

Some combat tuning still made it into the notes. One entry reads "Finetuned the forklift enemy to be easier to hit", which will matter to anyone who has spent time swinging at it.

Update 1.4.0 is live now, and the complete notes are on the game's official site.
