Onimusha: Way of the Sword Trailer Shows Brutal Rasho-gan Boss Fight

Capcom has released a new trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, showing a lengthy look at protagonist Miyamoto Musashi in combat and putting the spotlight on a boss fight against Rasho-gan. The footage also offers another glimpse at the game’s Kyoto setting ahead of launch on September 4 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Way of the Sword is set to be the first new entry in Capcom’s samurai action series in 20 years, which gives this latest trailer extra weight for longtime fans of Onimusha. The new footage focuses on close-quarters swordplay, with Musashi facing off against Rasho-gan in a fight built around heavy strikes, tight timing, and a visibly more aggressive style than the series has shown in years.

The trailer also continues to frame Kyoto as a major part of the game’s identity. Capcom is using real-world locations from the city, filtered through an early Edo period setting, which gives the new footage a grounded historical base while keeping the supernatural tone the series is known for. That contrast comes through clearly in the Rasho-gan battle, where traditional architecture and brutal creature design share the screen.

Musashi remains central to what Capcom is presenting so far. In this latest look, his movement and attack flow suggest a combat system that leans on precision and pressure rather than spectacle alone. The boss encounter with Rasho-gan appears designed to underline that approach, with the enemy forcing quick defensive reads and punishing mistakes at close range.

The return of Onimusha has been notable partly because the franchise has been absent for so long. A two-decade gap creates obvious expectations around how much of the classic formula will return and how much Capcom is willing to revise for modern action audiences. This trailer does not answer every open question, but it does give a clearer sense of the game’s tone, enemy design, and combat rhythm than earlier showings.

Rasho-gan also stands out as the kind of boss Capcom seems eager to use to define the game publicly. Rather than saving combat details for release, the company is putting a difficult, physical duel front and center. That suggests confidence in sword mechanics as one of the game’s biggest selling points.

With just a month left before release, Capcom’s latest showing positions Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a return built on familiar historical fantasy, harsh melee combat, and a strong focus on boss encounters. For players who have waited years to see the series come back, this trailer offers the clearest look yet at what that comeback is aiming to be.
