More Than 1,500 Exhibitors: gamescom 2025 Is the Most Diverse Edition Yet
One week before the doors open, gamescom 2025 has made its record official: for the first time, more than 1,500 exhibitors from 72 countries will fill the Cologne exhibition grounds, up from 1,462 companies from 64 countries last year. The total area grows to 233,000 square meters, another all-time high, and 40 country pavilions from 35 nations will make this the most international games show ever staged. Opening Night Live, now in a 5,000-seat hall, is almost sold out.
Records as far as the eye can see
The headline numbers keep climbing: over 1,500 exhibitors, 233,000 square meters, 3,000 more than last year, and country pavilions welcoming newcomers like Argentina, Dubai, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Qatar, and this year's partner country Thailand. Koelnmesse chief Gerald Böse pointed to the record registrations as proof of the hybrid event concept, while game association boss Felix Falk promised a gamescom week with more highlights than ever, from the biggest indie area to date to concerts, esports, and cosplay.
At this point, the streak is remarkable in itself. While other industry events have downsized or vanished, gamescom has posted growth year after year, and the 2025 edition widens the gap to everything else on the calendar.
Opening Night Live goes big
For the first time, Opening Night Live takes place in Hall 1, offering 5,000 seats and the biggest stage in the show's history. The scale reflects the format's digital pull: last year's edition registered around 44 million accesses worldwide. With the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 worldwide reveal already confirmed and the hall nearly sold out, August 19 is set to be the loudest evening of the gaming year.
Not just for the fans
The trade program grows in parallel. The devcom developer conference (August 17 to 19) brings more than 300 speakers across 17 stages to the Confex center, with studios like Crytek, Guerrilla, Insomniac, Riot Games, Sandfall Interactive, and Valve in attendance. The gamescom congress on August 21 focuses on social responsibility, well-being, and immersive technologies with around 180 speakers, and the invest circle matches young studios with international investors, keynoted this year by industry veteran Jason della Rocca.
The social side gets attention too: an expanded awareness concept joins gamescom cares, and for the first time a standout social project will be presented on the Opening Night Live stage. Under gamescom goes green, the Trash Galore initiative returns after saving around 1,880 kilograms of materials from disposal in 2024, and the gamescom forest has grown to 29,000 square meters.
Cologne turns into a gaming city
Around the halls, the gamescom city festival takes over the city center on August 23 and 24 with free concerts from acts like Blond, Blumengarten, and Kettcar, plus a laser show painting the Cologne skyline every evening of the week.
gamescom 2025 runs August 20 to 24, on site and online. The records are booked, now the show just has to live up to them. Based on the lineup, that should not be a problem.
