Table Tennis Terror Lucía Is Back to Torment Players in Switch Sports Resort

Lucía, the Mii who served as the table tennis Champion in Wii Sports Resort, has returned in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, and players are already venting about how hard she is to beat. Clips, memes and Reddit threads have piled up since launch, with some players struggling to take even a single point off her.

For anyone who missed the Wii era, Lucía has history. She debuted in the original Wii Sports as a fairly mediocre athlete. In Wii Sports Resort she became a monster at table tennis, serving as the Champion, the last NPC players have to defeat before they can claim to have mastered the sport.

Her return was not a given. When Switch Sports Resort was announced in June, fans of the series complained about the lack of Miis. Some even described Wuhu Island as "colonized" by Sportsmates, the avatars that largely replaced Miis in Nintendo Switch Sports. Miis ended up making a partial comeback anyway. Mii NPCs appear in Switch Sports Resort, and players can raise their frequency until they essentially replace the Sportsmates. The Mii Champions from Wii Sports Resort are back too.

Lucía is the one players are talking about. One player, posting as @JRozMK on October 22, shared a frantic clip of the effort it took to win a single point against her. Another, @GimbyXC, responded the next day with a post that made their frustration very clear after a loss.

The reactions are not all negative. Some players are glad to see the contentious NPC again, and she has brought back memories of the Wii days. Still, a Reddit thread on r/NintendoSwitchSports, titled "Has ANYONE Beaten Lucia in Switch Sports Resort Yet?", drew a mix of replies. A few commenters shared their victories, while others added their own complaints.

The physical toll is part of the conversation as well. A Japanese player, whose post appeared in automatic translation, said they had to put a compress on their arm and go to bed after more than an hour of nonstop matches against Lucía.

Nintendo has not announced any changes to her difficulty, so anyone who wants the table tennis mastery title will need to find a way past her as she is.
