Get the Lego Executor Super Star Destroyer 3 Days Early With Lego Insiders

The Lego Executor Super Star Destroyer officially launches on October 4, but members of Lego's loyalty program can order it three days sooner. Signing up for the free Lego Insider membership unlocks early access, and Insiders also get a free Darth Vader lightsaber hilt with the purchase.

What Insiders get

The Insider program earns you points on every purchase, comes with free gifts on certain sets, and opens the door to early releases like this one. Joining costs nothing, so the only hurdle is the price of the set itself.

The UK price is £649.99 at Lego. Insiders who buy it also receive the Lego Darth Vader Lightsaber hilt at no extra cost.

What's in the box

The set is made up of 6,130 pieces and measures 53.5 inches long, which makes it the longest Lego set ever produced. It edges past other oversized kits such as the Titanic. Darth Vader's flagship is the main attraction, but the box also holds a to-scale Star Destroyer and a diorama featuring the bounty hunters from The Empire Strikes Back.

A hands-on review gave the set four and a half stars out of five. Building it took around 15 hours, and the reviewer praised the level of detail and how well it conveys the vast scale of the on-screen ship. Lego has built the Executor in lavish form before, but this version makes several changes that produce a more accurate tribute, particularly the cityscape at the center of the hull.

The catch

The obvious drawback is the cost. Its size also makes it awkward to display, so clear some shelf space before ordering. Still, it sits alongside Lego's biggest models, including the new Lego Death Star and the Lego UCS Millennium Falcon, which is arguably one of the best Lego sets ever made. Few Star Wars kits are as imposing.

A cheaper option

If £649.99 is out of reach, PS Direct has restocked the Lego Astro Bot set at $25.
