gamescom award 2025: Resident Evil Requiem Sweeps Four Categories

The favorite delivered. Resident Evil Requiem is the big winner of the gamescom award 2025, taking home four trophies, Best Visuals, Best Audio, Most Epic, and Best Sony PlayStation Game, at Friday's ceremony in the gamescom studio powered by IGN. Capcom added a fifth win with Best Lineup for its Requiem, Pragmata, and Onimusha trio, while Ubisoft's Anno 117: Pax Romana claimed Best PC Game and Hollow Knight: Silksong won the community's hearts with Best Trailer. Nineteen categories, one clear story: this was Capcom's gamescom.

Requiem converts the hype

After leading the nominations with five nods, Resident Evil Requiem swept nearly everything it touched. Jury and audience agreed on the survival-horror sequel's craft, the four category wins span visuals, audio, and sheer spectacle, and they match the word from the show floor, where the game's playable demo drew some of the longest lines of the week. If the gamescom award has predictive power for the year-end season, Capcom should clear more shelf space.

Ubisoft and Pokémon own the booth battle

The expanded booth categories produced a double win for Ubisoft: Anno 117: Pax Romana took Best Booth from the jury for its hands-on setup and community lounge, and the publisher's business area presence earned Best Business Booth as well. The community saw it differently, fans voted The Pokémon Company's entertainment area booth as their favorite, continuing Pokémon's tradition of turning its gamescom presence into a theme park.

Nintendo landed two wins on the games side, with Donkey Kong Bananza taking Best Gameplay and Mario Kart World winning Best Nintendo Switch 2 Game. Grounded 2 claimed the Xbox category for Obsidian, and Love and Deepspace took Best Mobile Game.

The small games that stole categories

As satisfying as the blockbuster results are, the indie wins might age best. Hela, the cozy adventure inspired by Scandinavian nature, doubled up with Most Entertaining and Most Wholesome, a remarkable haul against big-budget competition. Tiny Bookshop won Games for Impact for its warm message about building a community of reading enthusiasts.

And the community's own moment: the Best Trailer award went to Hollow Knight: Silksong, whose appearance set the show buzzing like little else this week. Some games earn awards through marketing budgets; Silksong earned this one through seven years of anticipation.

The jury's special HEART OF GAMING Award, finally, went not to a game but to the gamescom artist area, recognition for the artist alleys that give independent creators direct contact with fans, and a fitting choice at a show that keeps expanding its community spaces.

With the trophies handed out, gamescom 2025 heads into its closing weekend. Capcom leaves as the week's undisputed winner, and everyone else leaves with a to-do list for 2026.
